We chartered 6 boats from Footloose Charters in Road Town, Tortola,
British Virgin Islands. 32 people congregated during the afternoon of
Saturday February 9 at the Footloose base and boarded the boats
for our first night aboard. The skipper checkouts and provisioning were
done that afternoon, so the next morning, after boat checks, we were on
our way.
Our itinerary took us in a counterclockwise direction around the islands - against the prevailing east-north-easterly winds for the first couple of days, followed by a long run downwind from Virgin Gorda in the east to Jost Van Dyke in the west, then some spirited close-hauled sailing back from the west end of Tortola. The first couple of days had winds in excess of 20 knots, but after that it settled down to about 15 knots. All through the week we had wonderful weather - there was torrential rain on the last afternoon, as we were making our way back to the airport! We had a good time at a number of restaurants, as you'll see from some of the pictures.
